High-tech coatings for
unique surfaces

We are the only company in the world that can refine strip metals in such a versatile way by combining three technologies: Anodizing, coating in a high vacuum (PVD technology) and painting. Here you benefit from decades of experience and a guarantee of up to 20 years on our surfaces.

Our coating technologies create more than just aesthetically pleasing surfaces. You benefit from functional added value and noticeable cost advantages in your production. You can print directly on the aluminum surfaces, back-inject them with plastic or process them in composite panels. Our technologies give your products a real competitive advantage.

Innovative coating systems

Our state-of-the-art coating facility opens up limitless possibilities for functional and aesthetic finishes. Using the coil-to-coil process, we coat metal strips with specially developed coating systems that not only deliver visually impressive results.

With our advanced lacquers, you can give your products special benefits:

  • Highly transparent clear lacquer systems for corrosion protection with minimal reflection loss
  • Glazing coatings with color pigments for individual decorative effects
  • Functional coatings for increased scratch resistance, UV or chemical resistance, etc.
  • Primer as an optimum adhesion base for processing, from back spraying to laminate

Example

The capabilities of our coatings can be illustrated with an example. DECO PRIME® 711 MAST – one of our premium surfaces – combines three advantages:

  • Matt: Reduced surface gloss for a sophisticated look
  • Anti-fingerprint: Prevents unsightly fingerprints on the surface
  • Soft-touch: A velvety-soft feeling when touched

Experience our high-tech lacquering line

The state-of-the-art coating line in our production facility at Ennepetal allows metal coils to be coated particularly evenly with transparent or opaque layers of lacquer.

Anodizing

The electrical oxidation of metal surfaces – known as anodizing – forms the basis of many of our high-quality surface finishes. In this electrochemical process, the aluminium surface is specifically converted to aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃).

The anodized layer provides an ideal basis for subsequent coatings such as PVD processes or painting. Due to the open-pored structure of the anodized surface, further functional layers adhere optimally.

Unlike applied coatings, the resulting anodized layer is an integral part of the material. This offers you decisive advantages:

  • Ceramic hardness: The anodized layer is extremely resistant to mechanical stress.
  • Variety of colors: The incorporation of color pigments during the process produces brilliant colors with long-term stability.
  • Transparency: The high-purity oxide layer allows excellent light transmission for brilliant colors.
  • Long-term stability: The finished surfaces are permanently corrosion-resistant and color-stable.

Example

DECO PRIME® DYNE with an open-pored anodized layer can be printed directly. This allows durable, scratch-resistant patterns to be printed onto the metal, for example for signs or emblems.

PVD coating

PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) stands for physical vapor deposition in a vacuum – a high-tech method with which we produce functional nanocoatings of the highest precision. In our special vacuum systems, metal material is vaporized and condenses as an ultra-thin layer on the strip metal.

In our PVD systems, we can apply various metals such as aluminium, silver or copper as functional layers directly in a coil-to-coil process. The combination with prior anodizing and subsequent coating opens up almost unlimited possibilities for high-quality products with unique properties.

Example

The performance of PVD technology can be seen in MIRO-SILVER®. This innovative coating uses a nano-thin layer of pure silver to achieve outstanding reflective properties.
