Next-level material for Transformer Coils

Coil material for electrical transformers needs inter-lap insulation. Traditionally, paper has fulfilled this role. With MIRO® Volt, our insulation-coated aluminium strip, the need for the additional paper insulation becomes redundant. MIRO® Volt aluminium strip offers you a step-up into the future of transformers.

Space-saving solution for transformer coils

The insulating paper commonly used in transformer setups is wasting space. MIRO® Volt requires less space. See how it works.

MIRO® Volt is the smart and compact solution

The innovative MIRO® Volt material makes the windings in transformers significantly more compact. It consists of 0.2-1.0 mm thin aluminum (1), coated for insulation.

An insulating lacquer (2) is applied to both sides. It is only 10-60 µm thick, but insulates voltages of up to 6000 V (breakdown resistance) and withstands temperatures of up to 180° C. As each winding is lacquered, there are two insulation layers between each winding.

The upper and lower edges are also provided with edge insulation (3). This consists of an adhesive tape only 1.5 µm thick, which further reinforces the insulation on both sides and prevents flashovers. It withstands temperatures of up to 300°C and makes excess lengths protruding over the edges obsolete.

Optionally, an adhesive layer (4) can be applied to one of the sides. This reinforces the cohesion between the windings and makes the entire transformer more dimensionally stable.

Diamond dotted paper needs too much space

Diamond dotted paper (P) usually separates the electrically conductive layers of the transformer winding from each other. Each winding requires space for the paper, which is between 160 and 300 µm thick.

In addition, excess paper (E) protrudes over the winding at the top and bottom ends to prevent sparkover between the electrically conductive layers.

Overall, the transformer therefore takes up more space in width and height than necessary.

Make your transformer production more efficient

Replacing the paper insulation not only benefits the space requirements of your transformers. It also has a positive effect on your production efficiency, as you save efforts in the manufacturing processes.

Performance improvement

MIRO® Volt strips help increase electrical performance by reducing power losses within the transformer.

Space reduction

Compared to traditional transformer construction, MIRO® Volt strips need less space for the same performance.

Cost savings

A more compact inner core can be used, less material for the outer windings is needed, leading to significant material savings.

Production efficiency

Without the need for additional paper winding, MIRO® Volt offers clear production efficiency gains.

Stability protection

MIRO® Volt with optional adhesion layers will result in a solid winding, protecting your transformer system from mechanical damage.

Proven technology

One of the major worldwide transformer manufacturers has been using MIRO® Volt since 2019 – with only positive results.
